Assembly and Installation
Assembling your Row In Vane weathervane is simple. The post comes already assembled and we use a thread-locking compound to keep the 3 sections (2 post sections and 1 spindle) tight. We also give the post assembly 2 coats of rust-proof primer. The brass compass points interlock and are held to the post with included brass set screws. Slide the compass points down on the post at least 3 inches from the top. Remember, you will have to orient them to the right direction when you install the post. Put the Teflon washer over the spindle. Use a small amount of grease (white lithium grease works best) on the spindle and slip the weathervane on with the Teflon washer between the weathervane body and the post. Installing your weathervane can be a simple process, especially if you use a gable-end mount or garden post..Other installations are a bit more complex. Cupolas require drilling the copper top to accept the 3/4" post, and a 2X4 or 2X6 below the hole to brace the post. Roof-top mounts are easier, and either of the 2 mounts we provide (the standard or adjustable) will fit most roofs. See the illustrations below.
